Buried Treasure?

Don't you just love the half moon Petite Princess Sofa? Don't you just hate the way the glue has dried up over the years and stained it? And also how the arm covers are always missing?

I decided to recover one and stripped off the green upholstery. What I found when I did so surprised me.
The sofa form is made out of a gray marbleized plastic. I like it! It is so sophisticated looking. I think I will make a couple of throw cushions for it, accessorize it like crazy and see how it looks in a room, or a shop, or a waiting room.

What do you think?

  2. OMG! I have the green version that has the same arm cover missing and the other cover coming unglued. I had planned on somehow restoring it, but never thought to strip it completely. Great idea, I may have to try it!! I'm so glad you thought of it. I often find myself not wanting to change some of my vintage pieces for fear of ruining them and taking away from the original piece, but know I might have found the courage to see what else lies beneath. Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. Thanks! I felt like you Mini Dork. I didn't want to mess with a vintage piece, but for some reason I keep getting the green satin couch instead of any of the other upholsterys, so after I acquired three of them I decided to recover the worst one. That's when made my discovery. I hope I can use pieces from the one I stripped to fix up one of the others.

One note - when I took off the green satin there was dried glue on the plastic. I soaked the plastic form in water until it was fairly soft and then used a magic eraser to get the glue off.

  5. BTW, when I say "I soaked the plastic form in water until it was fairly soft" I mean until the glue was soft, not the couch.
