Another dollhouse, another nursery

My $5.00 house is furnished with lovely Strombecker furniture and a vintage Caco family lives there. I had a lot of fun wallpapering the house, but I never did get the attic finished. I had been using it for storage until last week when I acquired a pink bedroom set.

Now the Caco nurse, sister and little brother and the baby have their own room. I used a couple of strombecker chairs, tables and desk to make it comfortable for the nurse.

I added the crawling baby on the paper carpet because he just looks too cute. And of course the kids have their dogs with them too.

I have been buying old issues of Architectural Digest at the thrift stores to use for inspiration for dollhouse decorating. They usually have one or two pages advertising oriental carpets with full pictures of the carpet. The carpet shown here is one of them.

I've been wondering if I can scan them in and then print them out on fabric. Does anyone know how to do this? Or where to get the fabric for the printer? I haven't researched it, but it sounds like a great idea. Please leave me comments if you have done this.

Hugs,
Susan

  1. I print them on t-shirt transfers and then iron them onto textured fabric - aida cloth or the back side of corduroy work really well.

  2. Thanks De. I'll try that. I had forgotten about t-shirt transfers. I used to use them to make t-shirts for my kids when they were little. I haven't thought of them in years.

  3. The dogs are cute, and nurse looks comfy in that armchair.

  4. Yes, she has been very busy taking care of the children while the parents are having cocktails in the living room. The poor nurse. She's been carrying that baby around for about 30 years. ; )

  5. I've read comments from other collectors about printing onto fabric paper, so I've been meaning to look for it myself. I'll let you know what I find!
I love this nursery - how thoughtful you are for the nurse!

  6. Thanks Rebecca. I look forward to any information you have to share.
Yes, I wanted to the nurse to be comfortable since she has no bed. I thought she should have a comfortable chair or two. I guess I should try to find a bed for the baby too. Otherwise she has to keep carrying it around.; )

  7. Oh, the children look so sweet in their jammies! Reminds me of when my 2 were small and all ready for bed...some of the best memories ever. So many little houses just have space for one bedroom--it is so nice that you always find room for a nursery!
Love your carpets and will now look for AD at the thrift shops too. Thanks for the great idea!
